Springfield Area Arts Council

The Springfield Area Arts Council produces the outdoor summer performance series, Artist on the Plaza, as part of our mission is to enrich the community through the arts. The performance series is free to the public and features local talent.

This summertime program takes place on the South Lawn of the Old State Capitol at Noon on Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting. Free performances range from singer/songwriters to musical theater performers and from dancers to jugglers. It’s a great way to break up the work day or simply to enjoy the sights and sounds of Downtown Springfield.

Summer 2023 Sponsors

The Arts Council is so grateful to these businesses and individuals that make our ARTIST ON THE PLAZA season possible. Because of their contributions, we can pay local performers to entertain residents and tourists during the noon hour every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Thank you!
