The Springfield Area Arts Council’s mission is to enrich the community through the arts.  To help fulfill that mission, the Arts Council produces an outdoor summer performance series called Artist on the Plaza.  The performance series is free to the public and features local talent.  Funding for the 2021 season comes from the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

This summertime program takes place on the South Lawn of the Old State Capitol at Noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Memorial Day to Labor Day, weather permitting.  Free performances range from singer/songwriters to musical theater performers and from dancers to jugglers.  It’s a great way to break up the work day or simply to enjoy the sights and sounds of Downtown Springfield.
