Back to the Music is a program working to reignite local entertainment by supporting artists’ performances in our community’s restaurants, pubs and venues.
A $25,000 grant to the Springfield Area Arts Council from the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln directly addresses revitalization of local culture as we emerge from the pandemic. The grant is one step toward realizing the goals of The Next 10 – a collaborative community engagement effort for the Greater Springfield Area to define how we take bold steps together for our region’s future.
The Back to the Music program addresses a key tenet of The Next 10, furthering the mission of Project #4: A Culturally Rich Community. Not only does this provide economic relief for artists and businesses, but also it revitalizes our culture to bring life and energy to our community. Relaunching after Uptown Friday Night, a year-round series of jazz concerts held at Robbie’s Restaurant for decades, went on hiatus in March 2020, the Arts Council is happy to announce that Boone’s will host the best local jazz ensembles each Friday evening.
Our annual New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts will be live this year with events at Hoogland Center for the Arts and First Presbyterian Church.
These awards, given to recognize artists, arts educators, businesses, volunteers, and arts organizations in Sangamon and Menard counties, will be given in 2022.
