Open Call for Glass Artists: 2024 Mayor’s Awards for the Arts

The Springfield Area Arts Council invites glass artists to apply for an exciting opportunity to create ten prestigious awards for the 2024 Mayor’s Awards for the Arts. This biennial event celebrates exceptional talent and commitment to the arts in Sangamon and Menard Counties, the area served by the Springfield Area Arts Council.

The selected artist will craft eight individual awards for the distinguished winners, one for display at the Springfield Area Arts Council offices, and another for presentation at the City of Springfield offices, totaling ten individual awards.

SAAC is committed to fostering an inclusive environment and providing equal opportunities to all applicants, irrespective of race, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.

Eligible applicants must be residents of Sangamon or Menard counties. Upon acceptance of the contract, the chosen artist will receive a stipend of $2,800 to cover materials, supplies, time, equipment, travel, and other associated expenses.

To apply, please submit a comprehensive project proposal including:
• A portfolio showcasing at least five examples of your work
• Your artist statement
• A project statement outlining the concept, theme, or idea behind your design
• A detailed budget

The selected artist will have from May 2 to October 26, 2024, to complete the project.

This open call is free to enter, and applications must be submitted by May 1, 2024.
