Poetry Out Loud Illinois State Contest

The Springfield Area Arts Council will host the Poetry Out Loud Central State Regional Contest on Monday, March 11, at 10:00 A.M. in the LRS Theater at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.  There is no admission cost, and all are welcome.  The venue is accessible.


Poetry Out Loud National Contest

The Poetry Out Loud National Contest will be held at Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC from April 30 to May 2, 2024.


The Arts Council provides opportunities for everyone at a wide variety of events and programs. There is truly something for everyone, and nearly all of our events provide revenue to fund our other programs and services including grants to organizations and placing artists in schools.

Friday Night Jazz & Blues

Relaunching after Uptown Friday Night, a year-round series of jazz concerts held at Robbie’s Restaurant for decades, went on hiatus in March 2020,  the Arts Council is happy to announce that Boone’s will host the best local jazz and blues ensembles each Friday evening.

Our annual New Year’s Eve celebration of the arts will be live this year with events at Hoogland Center for the Arts,

Mayor’s Awards for the Arts

These awards, given to recognize artists, arts educators, businesses, volunteers, and arts organizations in Sangamon and Menard counties, will be given in 2024.

Poetry Out Loud 

The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation partner with state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a competition that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through analysis, memorization, and recitation.  The Illinois Regional and State Contests will precede the National competition in Spring 2024.
